Recommended Maltipoo Outfits & Apparel

IMG_1207.jpeg

Maltipoos are small dogs and it can be fun to dress them up in clothing and accessories to make them look adorable as you carry them around town with you. Along with looking stylish, clothing can help keep your Maltipoo warm in cold weather and shoes can protect the paws from the heat as well as the cold that can burn and crack their tender pads.

Because Maltipoos have a single coat of hair, layering them with a sweater or vest can help so much while out in the cold weather. Maltipoos are more vulnerable to weather changes than the bigger breeds so you should try to avoid bringing your Maltipoo out in severe weather. However if there is a need to go out in the weather, a good coat is all you need to make your Maltipoo more comfortable.

If you live in an area that has cold, harsh winters, clothing will be helpful for keeping your Maltipoo comfortable enough to be willing to go outside. This is great when it comes to house training or staying outside long enough to maintain his exercise requirements.

Below are some great options for keeping your Maltipoo warm out in the cold weather.

Your Maltipoo’s paws should be protected as well. You do have the option to choose between shoes and paw wax. If you do decide to go with paw wax, be sure to choose a good quality option.

Another thing to think about is using a harness. The toy Poodle and the Maltese are prone to collapsed trachea so this means that the Maltipoo will be at risk for this as well.

It is a genetic weakness in the trachea rings. The most common way for this to develop is when a dog is on leash with just a collar on. Any tugging, lunging, etc. puts all pressure onto the dog's neck and this can wear on the cartilage rings or in some cases, cause a sudden collapse. You can avoid this and keep your Maltipoo happy and healthy by using a harness when on leash. It helps to disperse the pressure across a dog's chest, back and shoulders and keeps any force and tension away from the neck.

You can look for clothing that has a harness connector hole sewn into the back of the garment. It looks like a button hole. This way, your puppy or dog can wear his regular harness, with his coat on top. This will allow you to easily attach the leash.

Along with all of these necessities, it is also fun to include things likes bows, handkerchiefs, swimsuits for the summer etc.

5 Things To Keep In Mind When Stocking Up For Pet Essentials During Lockdown

Coronavirus is here with us and it has changed how everything is done. From social gatherings to places of worship to learning institutions, etc. all things have come to a halt.

Coronavirus is here with us and it has changed how everything is done. From social gatherings to places of worship to learning institutions, etc. all things have come to a halt.

With everything that’s going on in regards to coronavirus lockdown, it makes sense to think about how you’ll survive during this period. Where will you buy essential items such as food, especially the perishable ones?

This explains why a lot of people are flocking the stores to make essential purchases such as food, not forgetting sanitizers, face masks, and toilet papers. It is not recommended to stockpile, though. You only need to buy items that will take you through the 30-day quarantine.

But even as you stock your own items, it is equally important to remember your pets as well. What will your pet be doing during the lockdown? Have you stocked their food? What about their medications and entertainment? Do you have plans in place to ensure that they remain healthy and entertained during this period?

Don’t panic, though. Here are some of the things to keep in mind when stocking up pet items during this coronavirus lockdown:

  1. Entertainment

Social distancing and coronavirus lockdown have the same impacts on pets as it has on humans. Now that you’ll be working at home, pets will have you at home most of the time. Among other things, this will allow you to do things that you could not do with your pet before.

While you might enjoy most of your time with your pets, it can also be a challenge especially if your pets are used to spending time outdoors.

You, therefore, need to derive ways that can help keep your pets engaged and entertained as you continue with work, including:

Games

The lockdown period provides an ideal opportunity to strengthen the bond between you and the pets. Buy your pet’s favorite toys that you can play during this period. What’s more, you can use food and treats to keep your pet engaged.

Interactive Toys

In practical terms, you’re unlikely to spend all the time with your pet. Interactive toys are ideal to help keep your pets engaged when you’re working. You can also turn mealtimes into playtimes using puzzle feeders.

2. Pet Food

While pet stores will remain open during the lockdown, it is important to ensure that you have enough pet food in your house to avoid going out now and then. Be sure to stock foods that offer the required nutrients to your pets during the lockdown period.

Canned foods such as Wellness 95 Percent Salmon Canned Dog Food are not just easy to store but will also provide the purest way to include meat to your pet’s diet. Wellness 95% is a delicious meal that can complement the dry kibble.

Ideally, you need to stock up pet food items based on their shelf life. This way, you’re sure that you’ll have enough food to feed your pets during the lockdown without going bad.

3. Rest and Sleep

On average, adult dogs sleep 12 to 16 hours a day. Puppies will definitely need more than that. Remember your dog was sleeping during the day when you were at work. Now that we’re at home most of the time due to coronavirus lockdown, your dog may not get enough time to sleep during the day.

Consider having a quiet place where your pets can sleep without being disturbed by activities in the house. To that end, you may want to have a comfy bed to ensure that your dog gets enough rest.

For instance, you can have a scratching post in a high place so they can see what’s happening.

4. Medications

Our four-legged friends are not just pets; they are part of our family. You, therefore, need to ensure that they remain healthy during the lockdown.

If your pet has an existing medical condition, ensure to buy the required medication. Pets, just like humans, might need antibiotics, pain relievers, anti-inflammatories, etc.

Also, remember to stock antiparasitics to help prevent and kill internal and external parasites, for instance, intestinal protozoans, intestinal worms, fleas, ticks, and heartworms.

You can also stock other medications such as insulin for diabetes, atenolol and pimobendan for heart conditions, and methimazole to regulate thyroid hormone levels.

However, remember to call your veterinarian if you faced with a complicated situation.

5. Grooming

You may also want to buy grooming tools to help keep your pet healthy during the lockdown. By grooming your pets at home, you’ll make them feel loved.

Tools such as nail trimmers, comb, or a brush come in handy in this exercise.

Recommended Supplies for your New Maltipoo Puppy

Before bringing your maltipoo puppy home, you’ll want to make sure you’re equipped to make his or her stay with you as pleasant as possible. We’ve put together a few recommendations from our experience.

Before bringing your maltipoo puppy home, you’ll want to make sure you’re equipped to make his or her stay with you as pleasant as possible. We’ve put together a few recommendations from our experience.

Dog Crate

Before bringing your new Maltipoo puppy home, you will need to decide where he/she will sleep. Most dogs don’t like to feel exposed and prefer cave-like spaces, so be sure to select something that will be just bigger than your dog that they can feel safe in. Here is a great kennel we recommend

dog+bed.jpg

Aspen Pet Porter Heavy-Duty Pet Carrier

The Aspen Pet Porter Heavy-Duty Pet Carrier is durablle, lightweight, easy to assemble and has up to 10 lb capacity which is perfect for smaller maltipoos. It’s very easy to clean and simple to access.

MidWest ICrate 30 Inch Double Door Folding Metal Dog Crate w/ Divider Panel

iCrate double-door dog crates by MidWest Homes for Pets are the Inclusive Home Training System designed completely around the safety, security, and comfort of your dog.

BinetGo Donut Dog Bed

Our Maltipoos like to sleep in the crate at night because that is where they feel safe. We also have a nice soft bed similar to this one that they sleep in during the day.

Snuggle Puppy

You may also want to get a Snuggle Puppy for your new puppy to cuddle with in the crate. It mimics the mother’s or littermate’s heartbeat to help your puppy feel safe.

Food & Water Bowls

You will need something for your Maltipoo to eat and drink out of. This food & water bowl would be a great size for any Maltipoo.

Food & Treats

Food is one of the most important things to have when getting a new puppy. There are many different kinds of dog food to choose from. Most breeders will send a small bag of food home with you to help them transition to whichever food you have decided to feed them.

Be sure to choose a healthy dog food for your new Maltipoo. Look for food that has meat and meat meal as the first ingredients. Also look for the AAFCO certification to make sure it meets the basic requirements for vitamins and trace minerals that dogs need. Never buy any dog food that contains corn or soy.

Treats are very useful when training your Maltipoo whether it is potty training, kennel training, or simply learning some new tricks. I have found that my Maltipoos really love to learn when I have these treats made by Blue Buffalo:

Small & Medium Breed Puppy Food

Small & Medium Breed Puppy Food is formulated with select ingredients to help your puppy grow and thrive. With Life’s Abundance, you can be confident that you’re feeding advanced nutrition to help your puppy achieve and maintain optimal health.

Best Toys for your Maltipoo

Think of your Maltipoo's toys as being tools. Each should serve a specific purpose. Depending on the age of your dog, a dog toy will be: a comforting item, a chewing object to help with teething, a focus item to prevent boredom, a soothing sense of security when left home alone or a way for you and your Maltipoo to bond.

Teething toys

Teething is a difficult time for both puppy and owners. It brings about intense itching and a need to chew. If you have the right toys, it can be a lot easier to get through the teething phase. Having the right chew toys will help your Maltipoo concentrate on his own belongings and not chew on household items.

For teething toys, you'll want one of an appropriate size, that is durable, and importantly is designed with soft nubs and/or a variety of textures. In this way, a puppy can maneuver the toy to the areas in his mouth that are itchy at any one particular time.

Nylabone.jpg
maltipoo-rope-toys.jpg

Nylabone or Rope toys

Nylabones often work great, as do small rope toys. You may also find that offering ice cubes (plain or flavored) can help with the discomfort that comes along with teething.

DURABLE CHEW TOYS

All dogs like to chew, but to varying degrees; and chewing is not limited only to teething pups. Dogs of just about every age may like to work their jaws and occupy themselves by working on a toy.

Teething+toys.jpg
Maltipoo-kong.jpeg

The degree to which a Maltipoo is able to chew apart a toy will depend on his overall size, his individual jaw strength and the level of enthusiasm that he has with the toy.

If you find that your Maltipoo is ripping apart his basic toys in a short amount of time, this often warrants choosing a few toys for aggressive chewers.

TOYS FOR BORED DOGS

Some toys that you'll want to get for the times that you aren’t home are some toys that entice a dog to play. The best method for this are toys that literally call out to a dog.

babble-ball-maltipoo.jpeg

Toys that let out funny noises or those that speak are incredibly useful. Also, treat-releasing toys are great for bored dogs. This can keep a dog busy for quite a while and can definitely remove the feeling of being alone when his owners are busy or not there.
