Maltipoo Appearance
The maltipoo is a very popular cross between the Maltese and Poodle. The maltipoo can weigh between 3 and 20 lbs and can stand between 4 and 14 inches at the shoulder. They can have various colors including white, cream, peach, brown, black, grey or a mixture of any. Their coat is medium to long and usually curly, similar to their poodle ancestors. The coat is typically hypoallergenic meaning unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. Their nose can either be pink or black
Maltipoo Coat
There are 3 basic coat types with Maltipoos. The coat varies depending on whether the Poodle or Maltese genes are most dominant.
Straight and Silky: puppies with more maltese in them will tend to have a very soft and silky coat and it will be mostly straight. The coat will be thick, ranging from medium to very dense.
Thick and Curly: if the poodle genes are dominant, the Maltipoo will have a thick, curly coat. The texture will be more rough and is prone to matts and tangles.
Wavy and Wiry: This type of coat is rare and the wiry texture makes the coat very hard to groom, maintain a trim, or keep tangles away.
Maltipoos Colors
The most popular color is white for the Maltipoo, but they come in various colors due to the poodle having many different colors. They can be a solid color or be a combination of 2 or more colors. In most cases, the white coat from the maltese mixes with the colored poodle and creates a coat that is on the lighter side. Here are a few of the different Maltipoo colors:
White: pure, with no markings
Gold: similar to the color of a golden retriever
Grey: a light grey that looks like a “smoky” hue
Cream: off-white
Apricot: a gold/orange color
Black: very rare, however the Bb gene always overpowers the lighter colors
